Información xeneral

90% of global trade, is carried by sea.

Maritime traffic and shipping related activities have a significant effect on the environment, especially in ports areas and near coastal areas.

As major hubs of economic activity, ports are usually located in the vicinity of highly populated areas, therefore shipping GHG emissions within those areas have an immediate effect on the people’s quality of life.

**To put matters into perspective:

-GHG Emissions from a single Container Ship are equivalent of:
*CO2 emissions of 75,000 cars, NOx emissions of 2,000,000 cars and PM (particulate matter) emissions of 2,500,000 cars

-GHG Emissions from a single Offshore Supply Vessel are equivalent of:
CO2 emissions of 6,000 cars, NOx emissions of 70,000 cars and PM (particulate matter) emissions of 100,000 cars
Source: DNV-GL

Further to the above, according to a study conducted by Transport and Environment, 203 cruise ships emitted about 20 times more sulphur oxides (SOx) along European coasts than all of Europe’s 260 plus million passenger vehicles in 2017.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has introduced a series of regulations in an attempt to reduce the GHG emissions from ships, however the nature of shipping is such, that addressing this through regulations addressing ships alone, is not sufficient.

In Syndeseas, we believe that the response in minimizing shipping related GHG emissions has to be both effective (a blend of regulatory compliance and enhanced ship performance optimization) and collective, engaging all maritime stakeholders (ship owners/managers, charterers, port authorities, flag administrations, Governments, International Organizations etc).

Currently, pollution prevention efforts have focused mainly on ships (IMO DCS and EU MRV regulations, EEXI, CII) and not on port-related sources. As more attention is focused on reducing emissions from the marine shipping sector, ports are now driven to first understand the magnitude of the air emissions impact from their operations on the local and global community and then, based on evidence-based results, to develop strategies to reduce this impact.

The key to this effort is to provide the involved authorities/organizations the tools that will assist them overcome any barriers that are currently preventing them to do so: ie significant required effort and administrative burden involved, lack of necessary knowhow and experience, lack of technology and resources.

The ECO project, is our response to this need:
By providing the technology enabler (Syndeseas Integrated Solution's eco module -software-) along with the experience maritime and IT professionals to operate it, every port or coastal area can proceed to monitor and assess the impact of shipping related GHG emissions in its surrounding area.

The eco module can further integrate into the system data-sets directly from port sources, allowing the development of a systematic approach to the assessment of air pollutant emissions from port-related sources, twhich will in turn lead to the development of a port emissions inventory. This will be the initial step, towards developing an evidence-based port emissions reduction strategy.
The eco module can then be utilized to monitor on a continuous basis the effectiveness of the implemented measures and emissions reduction strategy assisting the decision-makers make faster, better-informed decisions and determining where to best focus resources to reduce emissions.

The ECO project, is thus a project aiming to provide transparency and advanced data compiling, interpretations and analytics on the effect of maritime traffic and shipping related activities, within certain ports and/or coastal areas and regions.

In turn, the advanced analytics will assist in the development of well-informed and evidence-based strategical decision making, on minimizing maritime related pollution as well as the continuous assessment of the measures effectiveness and determination of further actions needed.

Our objective for the ECO project is to utilize in real conditions the Syndeseas eco module for maritime traffic activities monitoring and analysis in specific ports and/or coastal areas, in an attempt to create an efficient technology enabler, for monitoring, assessing and implementing measures for tackling the ever increasing maritime related pollution (air, sea) of specific areas.

All data sets collected and analyzed during this project, will be officially presented and delivered by Syndeseas experts to the affected/related port, local and/or governmental authorities for their reference and further actions for minimizing the impact of shipping emissions.

Syndeseas personnel will work alongside the local and maritime authorities, for optimizing the functionality of the system and enhancing its effectiveness in monitoring maritime traffic and supporting well-informed and evidence-based decision making.

By monitoring and collecting all relevant data related to ships and maritime traffic activities along with utilization of advanced algorithms for data enrichment and analysis, Syndeseas will be able to produce relevant real-time as well as time-defined Environmental Impact Assessment Reports.

This will form the basis of building relevant actionable-insight reports to be submitted to the local and maritime authorities concerned, providing them a clear overview of the environmental impact of maritime activities in their area as well as suggestions and ideas on how to effectively act for minimizing pollution, via the development and implementation of effective Emissions Reduction Strategies.

Effective regional monitoring requires:
a. the purchasing and integration of specific data sets per area (AIS terrestrial and Satellite data via API from third party data providers), which will enable Syndeseas use geo-fencing trigger events and effectively monitor the maritime traffic within the specified area.
b. Syndeseas advanced algorithms, for enrichment of the reported data and performance of advanced analytics, for actionable insights
c. integration of reliable and actual operational data sources from ports and ships (via APIs or through the Syndeseas Noon Reporting Module)
d. support activities from Syndeseas maritime and IT professionals, for the effective implementation and promotion of this project

We are launching this Crowdfunding Campaign, to contribute in a globally shared vision: greener seas, for us and for our children
Any contribution towards this goal, regardless of its size or form is invaluable!
Let's work together and make it possible!

Características básicas y objetivos

ECO is a project aiming to provide transparency and advanced data compiling, interpretations and analytics on the effect of maritime traffic within certain ports, broader areas, countries and regions.

Its main feature consist of the real time monitoring of maritime traffic within specific areas (ports and anchorages), which is achieved via API through ships' AIS transmitted data. These data include position of the ship, navigational status etc.

The primary AIS data are then enriched by Syndeseas advanced algorithms, for estimating the environmental impact of the specific ship's activities within the specified area, for any defined period of time.

The ECO project utilizes a live map, updated for the monitored areas with ships' positioning and navigational data every 1 minute.
The system auto-calculations and analysis is taking place automatically and the results are also reflected online each time the ship's position is updated.

It further has the capability to incorporate actual operational data from ports (from simple data collection to full port digital twin development) or ships operating within specific areas, going beyond estimations, into actual reported data, that offer increased accuracy and reliability.

The goal of this crowdfunding campaign, is to obtain the necessary resources to utilize Syndeseas system for the real time monitoring of maritime traffic and shipping related activities within as many as apossible specific port and/or coastal areas, and deliver at the relevant local and/or maritime authorities an environmental report on shipping GHG emissions impact in their areas, (along with proposed actions to minimize same by developing and implementing effective Emissions Reduction Strategies).

The end result of a succesful Crowdfunding campaign for ECO project, will be the availability of (a) detailed environmental reports on the maritime related activities delivered to the affected port, local and governmental authorities for their consideration and further actions & (b) a powerful tool at the hands of local, maritime and governmental authorities, for assessing the shipping GHG emissions impact in their areas, making well informed, evidence-based decisions on measures and actions to be taken, thus effectively acting towards minimizing the shipping related air pollution in their areas.

Motivación y a quién va dirigido el proyecto

90% of world's trade is carried by sea.
We really are in need of a sustainable shipping, for a sustainable planet.
Enhanced regulatory compliance and ship performance optimization are key for facilitating shipping's contribution towards tackling climate change.

To achieve that, we need to overcome barriers such as costs related in developing and utilizing efficient digital tools.
We need to democratize digital transformation in shipping, by providing access to maritime big data, to all maritime organizations.

The ECO project, provides a key technology enabler (and vital support from a team of maritime professionals and IT experts) to the responsible authorities, so that they can:
a. understand and assess the magnitude of environmental impact shipping related GHG emissions in their area
b. design and develop effective Emissions Reduction Strategies
c. implement and continuously assess the effectiveness of the measures taken and strategies introduced

All data sets collected and analyzed during this project, will be officially presented and delivered by Syndeseas experts to the affected/related port, local and/or governmental authorities for their reference and further actions for minimizing the impact of shipping emissions.

We consider every positive and impactful action towards tackling Climate Change is important.

Time is not a convenience we have in fighting climate change and its already apparent adverse effects worldwide.
We need to act fast and efficiently.

At current growth rates, shipping could represent some 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
The International Maritime Organization has already established rules and regulations towards reducing the impact of shipping, however this is not enough.

**We need people and local authorities to be made aware and participate actively in acting towards reducing marine pollution (air and sea)
on a local, regional and global scale.

Let's work together and make it possible!**
